Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively together with the President Reagan to meetings together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
